June 16:
I was able to have a Father’s Day visit with my dad, and he liked the book I brought him, When the Sea Came Alive: An Oral History of D-Day.
June 17:
A long day of work and family stuff, but I got to have some espresso chip ice cream at the end of the it.
June 18:
My brother left some cans of Guinness in my mom’s fridge, so I decided I would DIY a snakebite. I bought a can of hard cider and attempted to recreate the drink, but the Guinness got extremely foamy coming out of the can and instead of forming layers the two drinks mixed together. The result was not what I wanted, but it was a fun experiment. From now on, I’m sticking to Guinness on tap.
June 19:
I walked down to the brewpub in the town where my parents live and had a beer pretzel and an IPA while reading The Mill on the Floss.
June 20th:
Bookstore tourism at Roundabout Books in Bend.
We took the vacuum cleaner to the shop because the brush wouldn’t turn, and the guy got it open, diagnosed, and fixed in under five minutes - gratis! It’s very satisfying to watch people who really know their stuff do their stuff.
We had lunch at Longboard Louie’s, which is next to a business called Bendy Body Pilates, which is a great name, and would be a great name even without the Bend tie-in in the name.
June 21st:
A young woman on my flight out of Redmond had an eight-week-old black Lab puppy with her and I almost stole him because he was so cute.
June 22nd:
Home sweet home, after three flights overnight!
I brought Pippin an octopus bandanna.
